Actionable Solution

How to Co-Parent in a Healthy Way

STEP ONE: Communicate.

  • Your communication skills are what your children will base their communication skills off of. Do your best to communicate in healthy and respectful ways.
  • As hard as it may feel, give a level of control up and let the other parent do it their way.
STEP THREE: Check Yourself.
  • Check your emotions and the baggage of your old marriage at the door and put your child’s needs first.
  • Know your child deserves to have a relationship with the other parent, no matter how messy the marriage was. And remember, one of the reasons you may have decided to separate was for your children to have healthy parents, even if that means in separate households.

How To Keep The Connection With Your Spouse

  • They have date nights after the kids go to bed. Every Friday night, they have meetings and go over the highs and lows of the week. They also praise each other and visit things that need changing.

A New Family Tradition

  • They do the pumpkin patch together every year and do a family photo with all the families.
