Key Takeaways

  • Our well being as mothers is essential to the well being of the family.
  • Our needs have to be primary and our kids’ needs a close second, because the energy we bring to our relationship with them pours into them.
  • If you don’t have energy to show up with, you don’t show up with any energy. Your kids aren’t being poured into.
  • We all have a desire to be liked, loved and valued in order to contribute to the world in meaningful ways. It starts with taking care of YOU.
  • It is your responsibility to take time to put yourself on the calendar and ask for what you need.
  • Don’t wait for someone to value your efforts.

Actionable Solutions

How to Identify Where You Are Taking Responsibility For Things You Don’t Need To

  • Visualize a fence. What is in the fence is your area. Outside of the fence is someone else’s area. Your kids have a patch within your fence.
  • Within your fence are your actions, words, reactions and how you use your energy. This is what we take responsibility for.
  • The same goes for the fences outside of yours.
  • See how much you fence hop- where you take responsibility for other people. Typically its your partner, workplace, etc.
  • You know there has been a boundary violation when we feel angry or resentful.
  • Energy is leaked when we take responsibility for things that are not in our fence.
  • Understand that you are the one that carries the emotional load for the family and it is your responsibility to get what you want for yourself.

How to Find Self-Care Within The Chaos

  • Start by having a simple check-in with yourself and asking what you need.
  • Start with your basic needs. How am I doing physically? Have I drank any water today? Have I eaten today?
  • Put a reminder on your phone and does this for a few minutes 2 times a day.

Hardest Decision To Make as a Mom

  • Deciding to go on a retreat alone and leaving her partner and daughter at 36 weeks pregnant, just to have time to be with herself and shore herself up before the baby arrives.

A-Ha Moment About Parenting

  • She thought that being a good parent was having to be present all the time, but after her daughter arrived, she realized she could walk away and get some space when it gets to be too much.

Most Excited About

  • Planting a medicinal herb garden that she can tend to during the postpartum phase.
