Ryanne began her career as a teacher in Chicago working with homeless families where she became interested in our education system and how it supports all children.
In the next few years, she moved to Los Angeles where she continued working with homeless children in the foster care system and in private school settings.
As a teacher and curriculum developer who’s worked with kids in preschool to high school, she spent time dreaming about a school that would allow her to provide children with an environment that catered to each of them.
She studied other school models nationally and internationally and spent time working in administration and policy, but the change was slow and she often wondered where her two daughters would attend school.
She wanted them to attend a language immersion school that focused on the arts as much as it did language acquisition.
She wanted her kids to learn biology by working with scientists in nature.
She wanted them to become global citizens.
She wanted them to be socially and emotionally intelligent.
She wanted them to find meaning in their work and education.
And in 2015, her and her partner opened the preschool called City Kids in Los Angeles. And in 2 years later, opened up the elementary school.
